Engebretson is the president of Slayton Solutions Ltd., a Chicago,
IL company that provides online and instructor-led training
in fiber optics and networking of security equipment. These
training programs are certified by the Fiber Optic Association
and ASIS, and provide NBFAA CEUs. Entering the alarm industry
in 1978, Engebretson has designed, sold and serviced central
station, fire alarm, CCTV, burglar alarm, and access control
systems. Engebretson is the contributing technical editor for
SDM magazine. |

Joseph
Hayes, is a National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association-National
Training School Senior Certified Instructor. He has over twenty-five
years in the private sector security industry, as well as
a law enforcement background. He is a Certified Protection
Professional (ASIS) as well as Level IV in Fire Alarms by
NICET®. He works as a security and fire protection consultant
in private practice. He provides security and network training,
code consulting, system design and CAD capabilities. He can
